Dahanu is a small seaside town north of Mumbai. It is famous for quaint beaches, lovely lush groves and amazing seafood. By road it is around hundred and fifty kilometres from Mumbai however it could be reached by the local train as well. The road is mostly four lane national highway and around 30 kilometres of it is single lane.
The name ‘’Dahanu Gaon’’ comes from the word ‘’Dhenu gram’’ which means the people living here owned a lot of cattle. Other than cattle, it is also famous for its coconut, rose flowers and chikoo. Thirty five percent of total chikoo production of India comes from Dahanu.
The beach is lined by a number of small shacks and hotels. All the places are very budget friendly. Best part is because of its proximity to sea, the seafood is super cheap and very fresh. So in a way, Dahanu could be called a seafood lover’s paradise. The hotels are so close to the beach that all you have to do is to cross the road and that’s it. The best part about Dahanu is, as this is not a tourist hotspot, the beaches are very clean and quite. Complete privacy on a public beach. If Goa beaches are for revelry and hard partying, Dahanu beaches are good for a quiet timeout from the city madness.
